Welcome to Wigan FRM's blog.

Did you know that the Sports Arena has had a few changes since our last show.

Champions Bar has been completely revamped, it now has seating for 60 people, plus great prices for meals.

This will make a huge difference for you when visting the Exhibition, also with Wigan Athletic playing an AWAY match you should have no problems getting something to eat and a sit down.

This is now called CAFE LIFE

just seen the new £10 admision fee. £8 was too much- £10 is outragious.

Last year the admission price was as you noted £8, this year it is £10 but it now includes an Exhibition Guidebook which last year cost £2 which we believe is a valuable aid to a visitors enjoyment of the exhibition, including as it does a write up of every layout usually accompanied by trackplans and photographs. You may also have noted that this year accompanied children are admitted free, which is a considerable saving for a family on last years price. But if you still wish to visit the largest exhibition in the northwest and gain a substantial discount on the £8 you paid last year then buy an Advance Ticket (details on the website) and in particular buy the 4 for 3 ticket which gain 4 people entry for £7.50 each including a guidebook. I would suggest that for an exhibition containing 39 layouts that is pretty good value.

Ten pounds outragious! Four pints of beer. Two pints of coffee. Two and a bit copies of British Railway Modelling magazine. One half of a visit to a premier football match! I'd rather have a full day looking at some of the best models available and trade stands selling everything I need in one place without all the hassle and aggro you get at Warley. Long live Wigan FRM.

Lots of good points made re' the value for money aspect of the admission price(s). I particularly like the idea of the free guidebook, especially if it includes trackplans of some of the layouts. Can't make the show this year; but look forward to the 2012 exhibition. Mac.

I too was concerned when I was advised of this years door charge, especially in view of current economic restraint. Then I visited the website and found an impressive list of exhibitors, traders and demonstrators, plus the inclusive guide. At this point I decided the price was reasonable. I then considered the fact that many of the traders are 'specialists' and not local. How much per annum would I spend on postage to purchase items, and without examining the items at first hand? Finally, there is the social aspect of attending. Meeting 'old friends', talking to denonstrators to gain knowledge, and perhaps solving some modelling dilema. To sum up, an event well worth attending!

Changed my mind about visiting this years show. £9 advance price plus guide seems good value for what's on show. Now: if the weather will just hold off. Mac.

I visited the show last year and have visited other shows too where the entry fee is around £5 but is less than half the size of wigan show. It is good value and I intend to pre book my ticket in the next few days. I would normally come by train but to cut the cost of travel from Blackpool I plan to use the bus and get a day ticket, it will be longer but it helps.

What's the problem? 4 Adults and a 4 year old boy for £30 quid plus a guide book. What's not to like? Think about how much people spend on a day out to most other places - it makes your eyes water! If you like railway modelling or modelling in general, then it's an easy decision.

I believe that the chosen method of ticket purchase and price is spot on; it allows families to attend yet makes sure that any loose children pay for entry and thus those under control can enjoy the exhibition freely, whilst the shows organisers are mindful that the young generation are the way forward to a future in modelling. DCC Sound with control is a progressive way to beat the tie me to my seat game player, with so many traders in this Wigan show and lots to learn for the newcomer from the myriad of layouts and tutors, the urge to prise away from the seat at the playstation to enter the world where real stations prevail is a viable reason for ‘N’ Gauging in the hobby of a lifetime… for those who have the nous to seek the best, the Wigan show for a £10.00 ticket plus a programme once a year is a pre Christmas boost. .. Plus let us not forget the free prize for those kids; this is good value during these trying times designed to ensure our leisure choice thrives until the good times return.

Quite happy with £10 for myself - but compelling my wife to have a guide aswell is taking a liberty frankly.

WHat a great show. Well worth the £9.00 Entry Fee. This included a very professional guide. I have to say that 'ALL' the layouts were superb and such a wide range of traders. Well done, Keep up the good work. The only drawback of the whole show was that it was so good, that too many people all wantted to go to the Cafe at the same time and the queue was so long it took 20 minutes to get to the till. Couldn't track down the disabled loo! Must be there somewhere! As I said. A Great Value show

Just to balance my comment previously - Very good day on Saturday: good atmosphere, excellent layouts, much improved catering facilities. So much so that went back on Sunday, as the folks on the till on Saturday allowed me to extend the one-day to a two-day ticket for the extra £6. Nice customer service! Two-day event for me next year.

This years show was excellent. The quality of the layouts that attended was very high. I thoughly enjoyed the show and will definetly be attending in 2012.

To Tony Kell, Thanks for the kind comments concerning the Exhibition. I am pleased that you enjoyed it. I am afraid the new Cafe arrangements proved to be dammed by its own success as the extra room and seating that we arranged just made it a lot more popular and produced the queue. Hopefully the Centre Catering Department will take that on board for next year. As to the Disabled Loo there are in fact two, one between Halls 1 & 2 and another in the Atrium as you came in before you reached the Cash Desk. To Dave, I am very sorry that you thought we were taking liberties. However I must point out that you may have noticed that one of our sponsors (Northwest Regional Development Agency) is no more. It was their contribution that enabled us to keep our admission price artificially low, when they withdrew then the price had to rise. To soften the blow we offered a free guide, reduced Advanced Tickets including the 4 for 3 ticket and Free Admission for children. We could have reduced costs by reducing the number of layouts or reducing their quality and kept the cost at £8 neither of which we are interested in doing, we would rather stop holding an exhibition. However this initiative regarding the pricing structure has generated few complaints regarding the guidebook, some even seeing it as a positive advantage, but has generated a 100% increase in advanced tickets, which is good for our cashflow and a 150% increase in the number of children. We presume that most of these will have been brought along by local visitors which again is a very positive move.
